Don't Fly Drones Here (map)

Map breakdown of municipalities that restrict Drone flying airspace.

Apparently the old DMS location was in a No-Drone zone due to Love Field.

That’s an interesting map. On one hand, I would have expected more areas to be restricted; for example, I asked Plano Parks and Recreation about flying drones in the park, but they said they don’t allow it (though, several people do it, anyway). That doesn’t show on this map. On the other hand, I hadn’t realized that so much area was excluded by the airports.

I’m wondering how old the base map is? I notice that it shows the street I live near comes to a “T,” even though that street has been built through for about ten years.

I think it’s a nice reference but as you stated, it may not be up to date. Also, the parks in the particular area may have not been contacted to get their stance on it.

I would always check with the park administration before trying to fly in an area. If you cannot locate any staff, contact the local city government. They may not know but can hget you to the right department.

That’s an interesting link but not entirely accurate for our purposes. The circles drawn on that map around airports are five miles. The original advisory circular about model aircraft is linked below which states three miles from airports, AC 91-57. It’s worth noting the advisory circulars are neither binding nor regulatory. In other words it’s a recommended practice and that’s it.

The five mile from airports came from section 333 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 which doesn’t pertain to model aircraft (hobbyist drones). It pertains to integrating unmanned aerial systems with the national airspace (law enforcement, journalism, agriculture, surveying, courier, etc.).

While flying model aircraft (hobbyist drones) at the old location was against what was stated in AC 91-57 it wasn’t necessarily dangerous and didn’t break any laws. For what it’s worth I’m not a lawyer and this is not legal advice but that’s my understanding of the situation.
