Donor Wall? Member input welcomed

@PearceDunlap threw off an idea of a donor wall. I’ve been pondering options and found a few ideas that could work. I think lol. The ultimate goal when I have been looking into this is to make it

  1. Little to no installation expertise required
  2. Fire code
  3. Something that can continue to grow over time
  4. Overall a cool installation that adds beauty to the space

I figured the lobby could be a good spot as it wouldn’t interfere with any comittee spaces or rotating areas like the hallway. Ideas below.

Each comittee gets a color. 2 color laserable material would slide in and out to quickly add names

Similar idea but pictures of the areas could be included.

Honestly the least desirable because of the footprint

Picking a single color for unity darker and lighter values would have different prices and different sizes could represent different amounts too. I know the green looks a bit mine craft. Benefit is this one can snake and grow as much as we want and can be installed with command strips. Keeping to quadrilateral means little to no waste. Again, can be 2 color lasered plastics

Well I find it interesting that on idea that was disgusting APR meeting several months ago and that has even been run by pure text to make sure that we can do it has now been attributed to somebody who wasn’t at that meeting. Interesting.

What was the scust WASP hexagons and probably six different materials. I’m not there would be 324 price ranges for them. They would be available to members and even to suppliers that wanted to support us. The price of salt with starting at around $35 a piece.

I know I’ve mentioned this around to several people so I’m not really surprised that it’s resurfaced as an idea doesn’t matter who gets it done it’s still a good idea and it’s a nice way to raise money for DMs and to encourage people people.

Wait certainly don’t have to be limited to just putting our names on a piece. I would love to have one that said something like this is fracture for Tommy die the maker that inspired me. I can see a parent put in there daughter daughter son’s name on one for Sally my upcoming maker. I think this is a great way to raise money I’m a great way to let people buy into the space. The Makerspace more personal and not like a place you come to be a customer.

The other idea that was discussed and approved wash to allow members to adopt various things around the space. It could be as large as an entire bathroom or even a urinal parentheses open some of the guys like the idea of having a urinal 9 for him their selves. Are it could be a small as a light switch or a door knob. Light switches are easy because we can use the laser to make flights for the light switch or even make them out of clay I know those two are fairly easy and make them interesting.

I’ve also even thrown out the idea of people adopting a work table or such the idea is to make the members feel like the space is theirs and not a simple a place they come.

I cannot find the tiles you’re referring to. Can you post a link? I saw it first come up in a Talk thread…in any case, yeah donors should be able to make it say whatever they want within reason. Their name, a small image, or So Long And Thanks For All The Fish :joy:

The PPR committee wanted to run it past pure tax before it was presented to the group. I know I have jumped the gun and talked about the idea around the place since then. When the pr chair at work in a fair and basically vanished on us. This is been sitting since January or February I know. I believe I first mentioned it before Christmas because it was either Steve R truck that came up with a suggestion of hexagons and I thought that was a wonderful idea to make our wall so wonderfully make curly and geeky at the same time.B

I am thanking that laser cut tiles, maybe glass etched tiles, CNC routed tiles., clay tiles, metal tiles and 3D printed tiles would be great.c

Coincide them wash Farm the funds from it to go to the expansion committing for use now and that we keep a track of how much comes from it and then after expansion and we are over the extra expenses got the board Stark pain that money back into the fellowship fund and that we could still continue to sell tiles with all that money going into the fellowship fund.

Our fellowship Vaughn can eventually be a great Outreach for us both in gaining new members an inn doing more as I nonprofit to help the community. 101 ideas that was thrown out at the meeting was that eventually we contact shop, art and Tech teachers after schools close to the space and that we have them choose an outstanding student for a 3 months followership membership for the summer after they graduate. Good PR for us and a good way to get makers and even their parents involved in the space. Right now we cannot afford it because we’ve never been able to really fun the fellowship fun to NE good extent. Nicole there’s much as she could with the picnic silent auction and we’ve had a little bit go to it from the car maker made shows but that’s not a lot of money. It needs a sizable inflow if it’s going to actually do a lot outside of Makerspace.

I am sure there are other things we can do to help increase funds coming in. Do something that boss brings in some funds and gets members into being members and not customers it’s very much a win-win for DMs.

I would be careful about having too many materials. It could get overwhelming visually and for volunteers trying to install. The benefit of sticking to lasered is the plaque is able to be installed minutes after the donation instead of days

Your notification bar makes my eye twitch.

W you could be right that 6 is too many. I think we want a variation but we may not want to go quite that far we do have to limit it or otherwise we’re going to have something from every committee and it will be well too much for those of us with add to even look at.

What would folks think the price points for these should be? I would like to see the first one start out at a fairly reasonable amount like $35 and go up from there.

No need to think about what size I need to be and how they will fit together. If we do clay ones we will need to make a mold for each size. They can be pounded into

I would like to see us have at least one that is high tech, one that is a traditional material and one that is more Art Center material. There may be some ways to combine some of these n21.

I know we have done things where we use the laser to X through a glaze that’s two in one. And I saw a post of something I want to explore more of with enameled metal that had been been asked on a net with analyzer. Let’s talk about it and brainstorm this place has the brains and maybe we can storm about useful things.

You’ll need to clarify what that means and how its related to this

Lol yeah I’m having a time with the voice text. I’ll be up this week doing personal projects and we can talk there.

Why not cover a wall with a large DMS logo done in opaque plastic, backlit by RGB LEDs, with the surface covered in similarly colored (to the plastic) vinyl squares with donor names listed.

Like what science has?

Fireworks that’s a neat idea but I was hoping we could have something that could keep growing with us over time.

Instead of pooping on it, why don’t you say why you think it won’t grow?

It could grow. The XL logo could be centralized and maybe reserved for the elite level donors then we can have the background spread out from it and grow over time. Have tiles for the fellowship fund is not something I would have thought about. We can do that and comittee donations.

Raymond it’s too close to morning, Corinth rain is still fall asleep fog. I don’t get creative till late night. I didn’t mean to poop on your idea I think it actually has great possibilities. My brain is sleep foggy enough that I’m not seeing it is fully as I probably should be right now sorry and yes I might have

Amanda mentioned Sciences logo and I need to go Pat more attention to it that I have. One thing that really appeals to me about your idea is the fact that it is lighted in a way. I want to stab something that’s us that’s my curly that screams this ain’t your average donor wall out of the hospital. And something that will be fun for us to make the plaques as well. Pick something that will even make us members smile when we walked past it. She kind of like his idea
