Donations to 3D Fab

@maxk68

Recently, I got a PM from Max, It appears I ruffled his feathers with the 4 pack of Superglue and the putting a sign in the drawer stating one per user. In his words.
3d fab does not need a drawer full of superglue, one or two is fine, the rest I sent to creative arts where it is needed badly.

Instructions are one thing but rules and conditions for your donated goods are another, which is why the sign was removed.

Again I am asking that in the future you make the donations to the chair or vice chair, and if you are wanting to do some good for 3d fab ask what items are needed.
Moral: From now on I will ask permission before I donate anything

Good enough, I will not bore you with the entire exchange. May I at least put instructions on how to open a tube of DURO Superglue since it is a bit different (and less messy) than most? I’ll print two so creative arts can have one.

The thing that got this started was the removal and disposition of the original 4 pack. Leaving an empty drawer labeled Superglue in 3D Fab and none for the 3D Fab users. In replacing and individually putting each tube I did kinda fill the Superglue drawer, but I thought I was replacing a pilfered pack.

Moral: Ask permission before donating material to a committee, unless you truly don’t care what happens to it…

So in the spirit of this rule, how about this item?

The one in 3D Fab is never there when we need it. So when I buy one for my personal tool stash I could get a few extra and throw them in the tool drawer, if they are going to be locked down or given away I am not interested.

So two questions,

 1. Do I get extra brass brushes and throw them in the tools drawer? Someone else can label them 3D Fab. I think we can all agree Harbor Freight is a candy store, I do go to the one in Rowlett occasionally.

 2. May I put the instructions for the Superglue in the super glue drawer? Simple instructions, nothing more.

For the record, if someone would like to borrow my ABS plastic, or needs a tube of superglue you have but to ask.I might say no, but generally not.

Wendy you don’t understand what I am saying at all. I removed a bunch of the superglue and gave it to creative arts, they need it more that we do, You then shame posted that you donated goods have been taken, I replace the superglue, You then donated more and now a sign with terms of superglue usages, I asked you not to post signs and to make all donations in the future to one of he chairs, I said not hing about having to ask permission to donate don’t put words in my mouth.

Donations should be altruistic, not conditional.

As for brass brushed we have a dozen and really don’t need anymore. we just purchased some , again this is why if you want to donate something you thnk we need like brass brushes you consult with a chair, we just last week got a new shipment in.

And Wendy if you are qoung to quote a message form me to you don’t just put in the pasts that you think will help your issue postr the whole message if you want its intent to be made clkear.

"Wendy,
In the future would you please not post signs and conditions on your donations, donations are for all to use as they please. and rules and signs for 3d fab are made up in the committee meeting of which you are welcome to attend. And please follow Makerspace policy and make the donations to the committee chair or vice chair.

I removed the sign from the drawer, and I also moved most of the superglue into Creative arts as we do not need that much in 3d Fab and they allways need super glue in Creative Arts

The vice chairs are Luke Andraski and John Gorman, both of which I cc this message so you can have their Makerspace email addresses

Thank you for your donations, they are appreciated."

Things like this should really be handled off of talk or via PM. As chair, Max can decide what his committee needs, but an in person discussion might be better received than the way this came forth.

Please understand, there is a level of frustration in my current existence. I would love to volunteer, but do not see any way I can help. I have finally reached a point where I am somewhat independent, but am still restrained by my limitations. If DMS needs someone to view security video I’m your girl. I don’t think it is too much exaggeration that DMS has saved my life. I have a creative need that DMS and 3D printing seems to fill. Doing things, even small things, to help other people improves my quality of life. My ability to travel is pretty restricted, requiring planning 3 days in advance to accomplish. This ability, courtesy of DART, puts the space within reach. Speaking of which, I can only reach about two feet over my head, So anything over that I have to ask for help.

So in my effort to be useful I may go overboard, with things like Superglue.

I’m still fighting a spool of ABS Plastic that melts between 180ºC and 190ºC verified by experimentation on printer 94. When it is gone I’ll repeat the experiment on another brand (it was Hatchbox black). Learning on a small problem like this) was enjoyable.

On the note of dobations ti 3d fab. I have a few partial and new spools of various colors of several types of plastic. I’ll be rejoining the space later this week and would like to bring them with so they don’t die a sliw death in my storage building. Are there any types specifically in need or colors in need? I have mostly abs and tps spools.

Can I have one abs any color

Yeah I’ll bring in whatever i have. I know I have a few turns if red at minimum

Black plastic filament (especially off-brand) often is where recycled plastic ends up, since the carbon black added to the plastic can mask the original colors. It’s possible some PLA got tossed in the mix by accident or it was mislabeled. If you burn a piece of it, does it give off black smoke and smell of petrochemicals (ABS) or a bit like waffles (PLA)?

I’ve had more issues with black filament than any other. If the color doesn’t matter, get “natural,” as it has no colorants added. It prints a creamy off-white color (bone?).

FWIW, I’ve had good luck with both Hatchbox and Inland filaments. Inland is inexpensive and is available locally in many colors at MicroCenter on southbound 75 north of 635 and from Amazon (and elsewhere online).

@Kevin , talk to me via PM, all things are negotiable. On second thought I’ll PM you.

Wendy, thank you for talking openly about this. I can’t imagine how it must feel for someone as smart and capable as you having most of your mobility taken away.

If you ever want to have coffee or a meal in the galley together, my availability is usually every other week any time or every week during school hours.

I’m still looking forward to making magic wands together with you with my lathe skills and your electronic skills. I haven’t forgotten.

If possible (it might not be), try not to let your frustration unintentionally get aimed at individuals who meant no harm. Speaking from personal experience, it’s probably going to take practice.

You have a lot of people here who care about you and will help you if you phrase what you want as a request instead of what (probably unintentionally) reads like an accusation.

Keep the faith.

Thank you. No accusation was intended. I find myself stressing over minor things, part of it is a lack of control of my life. I just have to keep moving on through the brain fog. I want to get back into electronics but find myself limited by my injuries.

So I rant now and again. Time for bed.
