A home based picture framing friend has retired from framing and wants to donate about 300-350 paper mat boards (32"x40") in various colours & textures
She also has a wall mounted multi media cutter (glass, foam, etc) she would like see to go to the Space model C+H 60
Omg!
I would love to facilitate the donation of a wall based mat cutter. I found it online but do you have any idea of how big of a space it would require? I’m thinking we take back the chalk board area for such a wonderful tool. I’ll paint over it Wednesday.
On the Mat board - let me go to the space and brainstorm how we could store it before I Agree storage has become interesting to say the least. When we get this installed would you like to take back your mat cutter that you kindly loaned us?
Could this be stored in the warehouse where the large stack of cardboard sheets (mostly used on the laser) are stored? It is a large flat space for storing large flat pieces.
The mat cutter up there isn’t one that I donated. This wall cutter… can
you send me a link to it? The wall cutters I’ve used in the past were
awesome, but only made straight cuts. It was a Fletcher that would cut both
mat board (and cardboard…) as well as glass - but wasn’t designed to cut
the middles out of mats or to make beveled cuts. I would love to have
access to a cutter that could cut mats bigger than 40" so I’m all for it!
-Steve
I’m all about it too! No @TLAR loaned us the extra large heavy duty one. A wall mounted one would be wonderful!
Possibly I’ll look at options. I would hate to see it wasted.
To clear things up:
The table top one on loan from me will will cut bevels (used in most traditional mats for art and picture framing), this is a 60" professional mat cutter that would be great for Steve (from his poat above) to cut 40" or more openings in mats. It can also be used for cutting foam core using the 45° bevel to make hand wrapped liners.
The wall mounted one (same manufacturer) only cuts straight(90°) NON beveled edges on mats, foam etc but these are not the bevels one usually wants on a mat in a frame.
The glass cutter is key, and the ability to accommodate 60" tall by any length material is priceless (free in this case)
Here are pics of the mats for donation
:Most are paper
Some are black core
Some are conservation quality
Nicole (& those interested)
I can bring the C+H cutter down some time soon (since it is in my saw /cutting room). There are actually two(2) wall mounted cutters she wants to donate. The smaller one ONLY cuts glass and is an antique Fletcher (perhaps CA could sell it-I don’t know).
You could mount it on a wall and hide it behind rolling cabinets until needed.
Sure lets take a look and brainstorm the idea of it being behind a cabinet is nice but the chalkboard wall kinda fell a bit flat so we might be able to put it along that wall. Please tell your friend she is very very appreciated. I’m going to come up to the space tomorrow at 9a or so to meet with someone about the letterpress. During that meeting I will be devising a storage solution for all that glorious board.
