Hello all. I have a Drafting Desk in great shape and thought it could be useful for groups evaluating project plans, or working on larger designs together. Thought I would ask DMS community, before selling or donating it elsewhere. If there is a space it could live there, and/or folks think it could be useful, lmk!
Same type of drafting table I used in junior and high school when I took drafting and other technical drawing classes. Someday when I have a larger workshop I plan to find one for home. Still after 25 years I sketch everything out on paper and work out the basic design and dimensions on paper before spending the time to draw it up in CAD. Still have my old drafting supplies from when I was a teenager and had a cheap flimsy drafting table at home. Now I usually find myself looking at large electrical diagrams for old electro-mechanical pinball machines that are often 18-24" by several feet long…
Does any one know if we currently have any drafting desks at DMS. That’s a nice desk, they don’t make 'em like they used to.
We do not currently have a drafting table (to my knowledge). I like the idea of having a drafting table with drafting machine, however some of that maybe nostalgia talking. I do make scale drawings when I make parts but usually the Machine Shops small drafting set is ok enough to do it.
I think we need to be honest with ourselves, does the need justify the space. That’s exactly why I do not have one at home currently. I am working on a collapsible version. Similar to this but with foldable legs.
Thanks to all who commented. If DMS would like to have it, I have some other tools to throw in the drawer as well: T-rule & other guides, etc I no longer use (mostly digital myself, these days). I found it great for working on larger formats like painting a large canvas or sketching proposed shots on those large story board pads. Its just large enough I thought maybe small groups could work on stuff together on it there, but also understand and respect the balance of whether it gets used enough to justify the space it takes up. I was hoping to re-home it by end of the month, so- with no definitive answer, I may move on to other ideas/options.
