Donation/give away of furnace glass blowing rig

In my backyard over the decades starting in the early 1990’s, I built myself a propane fired furnace glass blowing rig to blow from molten glass. This rig has not been used for over five years and my health prevents me from using and maintaining the setup. I have detailed my adventures on a largish website with this page http://mikegigi.com/m-bckyrd.htm#GLORYHOLE being a starting point to look at the setup.
I am willing to give this away either to Maker Space (preferred) or an individual for the “cost” of providing a trailer/truck and several strong people. I can not participate in lifting. The two main units are very top heavy and can be moved intact or taken apart into a base and upper sections, but the glory hole still weighs nearly 200 pounds. I have some moving gear to help and a paved back alley provides reasonable access.
Included would be a “high pressure” (12 psi) regulator for each unit matching the T burners that allows temporary maintenance of heat during electrical failure. Plumbing is black iron pipe and the outside of the pipe and all the steel in the units is rusty and has not been painted.
Besides the link above, short of exploring the whole site these two pages might be of interest: http://mikegigi.com/gloryhol.htm#39GAL http://mikegigi.com/furnaces.htm#DOMED
Obviously, there would be a lot of details to be worked out.
I can be contacted at [email protected] or 214-334-6645.

Hello Mike,

This is a bit “off topic”, but the construction of your site reminds me of all great days pre-Wordpress when people actually had to write HTML documents to put something on “the web”. Very nicely done. Thanks for that bit of nostalgia!

That is an amazing setup that you created for yourself!
I have somewhat limited knowledge of glass but I would advise everyone to carefully consider the issues involving glass blowing. It’s not for the faint of heart nor is it something that has any room for error. From what I know the kiln needs to be on 24/7 to keep the glass in a molten state for use.
I would personally advise that we don’t adopt glassblowing here at the space. I will leave it up to you guys to decided but I just think it’s a skill that is best left to somewhere that has a large amount of dedicated (safe) space. Yes, I just mom-ed you.

Actually, Lampy, I think uglyknees cautions are pretty good and the CAUTION at the bottom of my main page http://mikegigi.com/sitemap.htm has said so almost from the start of my paper newsletter about 25 years back. :slight_smile:

I have a problem. I got a reply of interest, but I get an error message saying I can’t reply to the email address at [email protected] as I don’t have the rank and I see no other way to contact.
Karl, please contact me via the address in the posting or have your sister do so.

@Karl_Lockhart … I think he’s trying to reach you.

@Mike1942f I reminded @Dianna :slight_smile: l think she was planning to reach out by email/call. I told her jokingly we can’t date anymore… which got a laugh, she is my girlfriend not my sister so luckily she and I can keep dating.
