I’m a complete noob when it comes to domain names, but just because this piqued an interest, I went to godaddy.com and AuburnRabbit.com, AuburnBunnies.com, AuburnCat.com (as well as many, MANY other options for two word .com names) seem to be available for 99 Cents. What am I missing here?

How about Makerspace.org Oh yeah that already happened.

I was asked to post it here. From my understanding “Auburn Bunny” was a branded site while the others are just keyword spam.

I looked up dallasmaker.space on Go Daddy. It was 99 cents, so got it so someone else wouldn’t.

Someone at the space bid on this but I dropped out at $2,000.

I dropped at 2.4k. As much as I would love to keep it live it’s hard to justify the that with my accountant.

If .ce were a thing, dallasmakerspa.ce …

So who got the domain?

https://who.is/whois/makerspace.org - PoseurTech LLC, a Drupal freelance designer out in Michigan.

https://who.is/whois/auburnbunny.com - CompuTEK Industries, their cloud solutions side of the house. I worked out a deal with them to have a donation to VCC and DMS.

It sounds like a great amateur porn domain

Also the eBay link provided is not aubrnbunny.com. I’m confused.

It looks like I’m going to end up with the domain. We are currently in escrow, and the deal should be complete within the next couple of days. In the original talk post that went out, I asked if anyone else at the space was interested in the domain in the hopes that we wouldn’t be bidding against ourselves. Had I known that the space was making an effort to purchase the domain, I would have dropped out.

Obviously, I will be quite amenable to creating forwarding records for the space if they are wanted. For example, dallas.makerspace.org and makerspace.org/dallas would forward to dallasmakerspace.org. I am also looking at providing email and storage space for smaller spaces that may not have the technical resources to get these accomplished.

My plans for the domain are to consolidate public information regarding makerspaces in general. What works, what doesn’t work, how to get started, etc. In the future, I hope to provide a list of local resources to each of the areas served by a space. I would love to drive more people to businesses that are willing to work with spaces like us.
