Does Makerspace have a lightboard studio?

Does Dallas Makerspace have a lightboard?

I’m kind of fascinated by the idea of them.

I would go to check myself but I do not have a membership to the makerspace right now. Hopefully my post isn’t a bother!

No, but they are easy to make if you use plexiglass. Build a frame and edge light the plexi with an LED strip. Use fluorescent markers and the text pops. The hard part is keeping it clean and scratch free.

Glass is far more durable, but much heavier, and much more expensive as you need to use low iron glass. You can ID that by its blue edge instead of the common green.

Here’s a video I did for work. You can see some of the imperfections on the plexi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5v4hoAulMU

Set up your camera, use a remote microphone because the lightboard is between you and the camera, and flip the video left to right in post production to make the text read properly. We used a couple of box lights/diffusers to add light from the sides.

Does that mean they write everything backwards? :upside_down_face:

Nope. It’s just through the looking glass. (Camera + mirror = flipping correct for viewer)

Nice. I didn’t catch that. Very elegant solution!
