Does DMS have a spot welder?

And if yes, do I need to be cleared to use it? Thanks
Steve

Yes and yes. You need at least the hot process class to work in the metal shop. I don’t believe any specific training beyond that is required.

I did take the hot process class. But I have not used one before. I will come in and ask someone to help me get started. Thanks

Easy enough to operate. The timer is kinda backwards. You turn it clockwise to give less time.

So for reference in this picture, the far left is like 5 seconds. The far right is about a half second.

I have a metal sculpture using 18 and 20 gauge sheet metal that I used a MIG to put together but the next part will be cumbersome to do that, so looking for an easier method. Can I bring it by and get your input next time you are there?

Of course. Send pictures and a description of the plan so that we can be thinking of what needs to be done. I will be teaching a MIG class DEC 9 from 6PM to 9PM-ish. Bring the sculpture if you can make it.
Best,
Jim

Randy has a TIG class today. He might advise.

I’ll be there about 1:20

Good. I am registered for that class.

I will come and look for you between 1:30 and 2

Since you are working with light gauge metal you may want review master craftsmen:
MP&C Shop Projects | The Garage Journal
Hands-on Metalworking Workshops - Classes & Trainings also on YT.
