Does anyone have a steel banding rig I could use for binding a large pole transformer core back together… i had to cut it apart to clean rust out of the windings.
If it would work, I have the stuff to do poly strapping, but I doubt you want to mess with that inside of a pole transformer.
Now, inquiring minds really want to know what you have in mind for said transformer…
There was a manual metal banding machine at the back dock several months ago. I hope it is still there.
Yes, do tell! Pole pigs are dangerous fun.
I hope to make a doomsday Tesla coil of course! It was ripped off a pole in a tornado and I pulled it out of a ditch only low voltage bushings damaged…I drained it and it sat awhile so because of that it surely got damp as the core rusted…because of that I had to further open the core to vacuum out the windings…so now I have to bake the core then put it all back together and evacuate it and fill it back up with oil… I have a 400 lb 95kv coupling capacitor which I hope to use as a tank (but I have to go over the math on that anyway). Hopefully I can get it working…if not I still like the pole pig case and I can use it for the naked x-ray transformer cores I have that need a home…if I can’t find steel bands(there wasn’t one at the dock) I suppose plenty of bailing wire might do.
Probably need to form a Tesla Coil SIG. I know of 4-5 members that woudl love to work on a group build.
(shrugs) it was damaged cold and alone …I did it a service
