Tesla user data on crashed vehicles

For those of you who do own or want to own a Tesla or other e-vehicle, you might want to consider the attached article I got from a friend.

Likely this is a significant problem in gasoline powered vehicles with enhanced features & consoles too.

Even more likely is you’ll have to pay the manufacturer to wipe your vehicle upon sale, if it is even a feature said manufacturer thought to build in. ( most haven’t ).

I have to say the basic stripped down model I later add my own gear to is looking more appealing.

One wonders if this information is made available to insurers. They’re already encouraging use of fhose OBD2 dongles that check for “safe driving” which may well be gathering more than speedo and braking data - why not dashboard and adaptive cruise control videos as well?

This data will definitely be subject to subpoena when there is a wreck.

My feeling is the more “maker” and “hacker” types will figure out a way for me to reprogram or wipe my car, or at the least brick it, should the need arise. Hope my faith in my fellow tinkerers isn’t misplaced!

And this is why I’m never buying anything made after 2012.

A viable option now, but you’re likely to run out of options eventually.
