DMS Scholarship Fund?

I have a general question here. I have learned through some of the discussions on “Talk” that there are some funds designated as “scholarship funds” here at DMS. I am curious as to how those funds are used and if one can nominate a “cause” for a potential grant/disbursement. I work with a local middle school that is starting up a robotics club. They are seeking donations and grants ASAP to purchase the required equipment to get the group started. It sounds like this would be in line with the goals of the Makerspace so I figured it is worth asking the question to confirm if such a fund exists and if there is a nomination process.

These funds are used to award payment monthly dues to persons nominated. The the case of minor that are 16 & 17 years old there would be two awards involved: The parent and guardian as the Regular member and then an Add-on account for the minor. Minor can not be a member except as an Add-on.

Middle school students are probably too young. 16 & 17 year olds do not require a parent to be with them, bt anyone 15 or younger would require the parent to be with them at all times and near by. Most training for equipement wouldn’t be available to the minor.

As far as donations, in the past this has been limited to equipment that is surplus to DMS, although it can be very significant: A large 100 watt+ laser to a Maker Space on the southeast coast that burned down.

Now for some GOOD NEWS.

Most Tuesdays and some weekends the Dallas Personal Robotics Group holds sessions at DMS. These are open to the public and no age restriction is indicated … and it’s FREE. This is an active group and I encourage them to attend. see calendar.dallasmakerspace.org

This group also meets on the weekends at times, their next meeting is:

Thanks for the response. It’s good to know that these funds are ear-marked to help with membership fees rather than outside philanthropy.
