DMS pollinator garden design

Hey, DMS. My friend and I have been working on getting a landscape design for DMS to set up a certified native pollinator habitat. This is what we came up with. Keep in mind that this is with mature plants pictured and it will change throughout the seasons. All were waiting on is approval from the landlord. These are all Texas native and we could incorporate more species of plants as well, as long as their Texas native. Let’s hear what y’all think and if you would be willing to help prep and install.

My friend designs gardens professionally, he does amazing designs.

I’ve been wondering about what the landlord is doing. They just mulched all the bare ground for the entire building.

This sounds great Rick, but we don’t control the ground cover around this building. I hate seeing you place energy into a project that most likely can’t be green lighted. I bet there are many areas in DFW that would openly embrace this. There are lots of businesses that own lots next door that might be interested.

I would also check with the incoming BoD prior to pursuing any financial grants tethered to DMS. This can get sticky very quickly.

Good luck.

There is a project already in the works with the BOD and landlord to see if we can create a garden out front. As @SWA suggests, engaging with the BOD is the way to go.

Yup, and he did, submitted a proposal to the bod, landlord had some changes, we are working through it.

Once it’s approved theyr could be some fun woodshop project options for it, like flower boxes or trellis or such. We will post about it when it’s approved

Good news everyone! The land lord approved the pollinator garden with a few conditions. We’ll revise the design accordingly and post it soon. Be on the lookout for gardening classes and gardening events coming soon. If you have any plants or seeds that are Texas native and you would like to donate them to the cause please let me know. There will be Texas native plant sales through April and some in May through the Texas conservation alliance and the Native plant society of Texas. If you’re looking to add beautiful, rare and Texas hardy plants to your landscape these are the sales to go to.
