DMS on Storage Wars Texas

It has been brought to my attention that DMS was involved in an episode of Storage Wars Texas. A quadcopter was the subject and the description I got would seem to indicate it was at the Ladybird location. Search of Talk turned up nothing; it may have been before Talk.

It’s posted on the DMS facebook page and dated 12/1/2013. Definitely shot at Ladybird.

Too bad there was no sound. At least a tracking ID was not needed to see it.

The membership at the time was informed as to the tape date of Storage Wars through our old listserv, pre-dating Talk (and our Monetary location) by about a year. Robert Davidson forwarded us emails from the producers indicating they wanted to tape at DMS on 5/20/2013, and Robert wanted us to clean out the workshop ahead of time, since they might want to fly the drone in there (or at least do the evaluation inside and then fly it right outside the roll-up door). I used that as an excuse to “work remotely” that day, quietly from the Electronics Room. Victor Rjesnjansky was the winner of the storage unit with the “Parrot AR 2.0” drone (among other things), and Romeo was the expert evaluator.

As it’s been almost 10 years, I don’t really have much in-memory about the goings-on (and also in general tried to stay invisible to everyone, rather than being nosy). They did about 4 takes with Victor walking all the way down the hallway from the front door to the workshop, and saying corny things along the way like “Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo”.

He was portrayed as a rather rude fellow on the show, but I got to meet him in person & shake his hand and he seemed quite genial in real life. That said, apparently Romeo still found him (or his character) insufferable, based on comments he made on the listserv after Heather shared a clip, as did one other member who must have observed the proceedings. I don’t think the drone ended up being anything special, so it didn’t end up being a significant value in making up what Victor paid for the locker.

I was involved in a reality show some years ago. They (producers) try to make the turmoil & express exaggeration on what is going on. A friend of mine, Joshua Bertschy, was in the show. It was based off of his company at the time Baertrax. The previous year, him & I had come within milliseconds of first & second place in a hill climb challenge. They did some interviewing with me & asked me to the the hero pose in front of my Jeep.

On a trail earlier, another friend was watching with their small chihuahua, Joshua going up a ledge. They were leading asking if the dog was scared for Joshua on making that ledge. We were like “Really?” I think they only did a pilot on that, I dont think it made it anywhere.
