I saw an old thread in the ‘Talk’ history, referencing a ‘DMS member number’ or some other ‘DMS member information’ that could be leveraged when making filament purchases in retail outlets.
Can DMS members leverage DMS purchase discounts when purchasing filament?
Thanks in advance.

A while back I was able to purchase polyprinter filament with a bit of a DMS only discount. paging @LisaSelk

There is a discount code for members to use to purchase filament from PolyPrinter.
My phone is almost dead. I’ll send you a PM later tonight or in the morning with details. Please do not post it anywhere or share it with non members. Thx!

Can a collection of such members-discount things be thrown up in the Members Only section? I know there’s more than just this one, but can never remember what, or where to find the appropriate code/link/etc
I am going to stir the stinky stuff.
If you would like to spend your time creating and editing the discount list. The answer is a resounding “Yes”. If you are unwilling to do it, then the answer is “No”.
In the do-ocracy model, this is a good answer. Many new members think there is a master pecking order, you must get approval and there, mostly, is not. It is appropriate to do the work and post it to the WIKI. Then announce the document on TALK. (Do-ocracy on our servers will get several grumpy people giving you an up close stink eye, you have been warned.)
Please do not be offended. I am pointing to the DMS culture of how big and small projects get done.
If you need help, post that request on TALK.

Steve,
Very good perspective on the ‘Do-ocracry’ model. Much appreciated. While I wasn’t the one on this thread to request a list of available DMS discounts be compiled and then posted to a DMS public location, I would like to offer up for your consideration that ‘new members’ may not have at their disposal the key DMS discount information needed to create/maintain such a listing.
Do-ocracy only works when one is empowered with the information necessary to ‘Do’.
Kind Regards,
Scott

I do not have the “data” either. There is an assumption that all the older members are sitting on vast and wonderful stored communal knowledge which we hide from new members, simply not true.
What most of us do have is a bit of knowledge and then a bunch of wear and tear from that learning.
What I was pointing to was two different mindsets. “Who will do this for me?” vs “I will spend my time to make this happen, if someone will point me in the right direction.” The first type request generally gets ignored, the second will PROBABLY get some assistance.
Socially, outside of DMS the first attitude is common. Inside DMS we work to foster the second one.
Try it, ask for 5 minutes of help vs 5 days. What is cool is there are people who will willing help at 5 hours. There was a car repair recently, that comes to mind.
My apologies if this seems a bit blunt. Not my intention at all.

I believe the first part of your first paragraph is absolutely a valid assumption. I believe the second part of your first paragraph is not assumed by many, but that is conjecture on my part.
I have found those at the DMS to be, in large part, happily willing to show ‘newbies’ like me the ‘ropes’. I am sure there are longer term members of the DMS who are less likely to step up and offer assistance. There should certainly be no expectation of fellow member assistance from what I have read in the Member manual or online. I get the ‘Do-ocracy’ model.
I presume your statement about new member me asking for 5 minutes (versus 5 hours) of guidance/support from more tenured DMS members is directed toward some larger member audience not present in this thread. Perhaps you should post a new thread on Talk outlining your concerns and suggestions. Your target audience may be more prone to reading a post with that as the subject line. I doubt very many will read your above suggestions unless they are looking for a discount on filament.
FYI I just went to Micro Center, and there is an online retail me not five dollar off coupon for any $30 purchase through June 30. I got my two spools of ABS filament for $12.50 each after coupon.

Yup!
I’m sorry you ran into that assumption. As an older member myself, I’d hate it if someone assumed I had that info.
As I posted here stating that I’d find that resource useful, I think it’s pretty obvious that I do not have that info and would thus be hard pressed to start that page. Since I didn’t imply that you should make it instead, I feel confident that wherever it is that you ran into that assumption, it’s not on this thread - though I encourage you to do that wherever it is you did find it. (Do-ocracy!)
I also do not know how to create a Wiki page that is secured so that only members can read it - heck, I didn’t know that was even possible, but I’m glad to learn otherwise. (Secure access was the understandable concern of the only person on this thread who implied they had any of the requested info in the first place; since I didn’t know about the ability to make a secure Wiki page as you imply is doable, I suggested it be made here in Members Only instead. Happy that you’ve informed me otherwise on that! Gives me something new to learn.)
That said - if anyone wants to start passing that info along to me, I’d be happy to create the Wiki page or sticky Talk post or whatever medium is preferred. As soon as I have the tools to “do,” I’ll be happy to enact some “do-ocracy,” as requested.
Speaking of 'Space principles - I would also encourage folks to presume that others do get the concept, and simply don’t have the tools, rather than jump to the conclusion that one is 1) new and/or 2) doesn’t know any better - it seems that it’d be more Excellent to give fellow members the benefit of the doubt, I’d think. But hey - no harm, no foul.
