DMS Instagram! Let’s make it grow

Hey friends,

Our social media, especially IG is such a great and FREE tool to use to show off how amazing DMS is!

Behind the scenes, our Digital Media Committee, Joel (chair) and Keith (co-chair) have been gracious and amazing of staying long hours at events capturing b-roll and amazing content.

They shot the Steam Roller Event, Roborama and today were present for the Ceramics Throw down!

We did post an organic “story” and video reel of one of the fun competitions ceramics had going on, but the full video series will be edited and posted in the near future.

But I wanted to make sure those who have an IG, that it’s always great to follow and share any fun content your projects may appear in, your friends projects and just cool things happening!

Here is a link to our Instagram: Dallas Makerspace (@dallasmakerspace) • Instagram photos and videos

We also have a YouTube account where these new and professionally edited docu-series type videos will go live.

Let’s share the love and how awesome our space is

Btw- we review all the tags to our account and 99/100 we will reshare!

-Gena

Before anyone asks in fun, no we will not create an Only Fans account. Haha!

My head is spinning with all of the Social Media Apps.

How about we just stick with Talk as our official Social media App…

Talk doesn’t help us that much with outbound recruitment. But you are right. there are too many. Thats why we are focusing on only the major ones that have a low management overhead and good reach for recruiting new members. Right now thats YouTube and Instagram. Soon maybe we can start doing stuff on Reddit, but that depends heavily on volunteers for moderation.

Seriously though if you don’t personally use social media, no one is asking you to start. But people can’t join the makerspace if they don’t know it exists. Sharing some of the really cool stuff that goes on here out on the internet is a great way to get people interested.

OK, let’s look at attracting people. I did a search on Facebook, Goggle and DuckDuckGo, I looked for Craft shops, Hobby shops, places to make crafts, hobbies and stuff. The only way I found DMS was to search for Makerspace. Not sure about your circles, but in mine and those I know of, few people know what a makerspace is.

Word of mouth is good but not great. Do we ever pass put flyers or other forms of advertisement at the Craft Stores, Home Depot, Lowes, Rocker or WoodCraft?

Our next PR meeting will be in later July or August. Feel free to come to that.

Searching for hackerspace brings us up as the first hit. So does searching for community workshop.

WoodCraft has allowed me to post a poster for our open house; i.e., specific event, not an ongoing advert.

At FanExpo there was a booth for another local new Makerspace that have some GlowForges set up and were passing out little keychain tapemeasures with their info on in. I wonder if they actually got recruitment from the event
