DIY/Homemade CerMark Alternative

Continuing the discussion from Cermark use protocol?:

I am a cheap bastard (some have argued with the cheap part in the past), so I look for DIY alternatives, e.g. I make my own daily shower spray cleaner and just refill the spray bottles left over from using the expensive stuff.

Anyhoo…has anyone considered something like this:

I’ve done it. It worked for my need to mark from tools. just have to get and even thin coating.

Thanks for posting this. I used plaster of Paris and denatured alcohol. The mixture that I had was that of watery milk. Flood the surface and move the piece back and forth to keep the coating even. Worked great. We have a 130 watt Chinese laser and the settings were 200mm/sec 40% at 300dpi. The result was very detailed and the engraving was very difficult to remove without grinding. So a permanent mark. Perfect.

Thanks again,

Any chance lasering this mixture will produce zinc oxide?

We ban welding and plasma cutting galvanized for that reason.
