Disconnect for A/C Compressor - breakerless ok?

My residential AC compressor disconnect box burned up. Looking at the box, the breaker got hot and burned and damaged the connections on the box so I’ll have to replace the whole thing.

No worries, I guess. Amazon has one for $13 but it appears to just have a disconnect that unplugs.

My question . . . Is this ‘ok’ by code for Dallas? disconnect but no breaker? I think I’ve seen that before on other homes.

There is, of course, a breaker in the garage in the breaker panel for the compressor.

Yes that is ok. The pull out are there for those who work on the unit itself.

Great, thanks for the reply.

Translated: You’re free to electrocute yourself because you switched wrong breaker off in garage.

Yeah, that’s the kind of thing I’d do. I turned off all the double throw switches to be sure and then checked with a mutimeter and still wore gloves plus I put a momentary short across the two hot lines with a thick solid wire just to check. Woulda make a heck of a spark but better that than work on hot lines.

I’ve never seen anyone fail to safely manipulate the pull out disconnects by the AC. If anything, it requires a more conscious, deliberate act to locate the plug in assembly, figure out rotation and insert. There are a lot more opportunities to figure out if this is really a good idea before proceeding than with just a breaker to toggle. And I’ve never seen any tech ask to have the breaker switched off as well.

Agree, no need to switch the breaker if you have the disconnect working.
