I’d suggest looking into using the DMS Meetup group to get the class listing in front of a lot of people. I’m working on getting a class scheduled through Meetup, but haven’t yet. @NightRanger has more information about DMS Meetup.
What room do you think this would work best in? I want everyone to be able to see what’s going on.
30ish people…who need worktables on a floor which can have stuff spilled on it and clean up OK… Rooms Guide page - Dallas Makerspace
I’m guessing… Interactive?
And how many people do you think we could effectively include?
About 24 sounds good, plus sponsor, assistants, instructor, etc…
The cost would probably be around $30 for them to schlep all their stuff from Allen. Do you think that’s more than our people would be willing to pay?
I do not. I think you will get plenty of takers.
Any suggestions about timing? Sooner vs later? Weekend vs weekday?
Sooner. We have short attention spans.
More members are more available on weekends or “after 6” on weekdays… Something like this, personally, I’d think Saturday around 10:00 AM. I’m sure others have other opinions…
Would it matter whether I set it up as an event or a class?
Not really. I don’t think you’ll honorarium this, so it’s just a matter of tagging it. I’d tag it as a “class” since it’s going to provide instruction.
EDIT: One afterthought: this would probably go over very well for “parent-kid” combos, doubling the number of bodies per tooth, which could skew the numbers above. I still think about 24 student bodies in the room (12 kids with a parent, for example) plus the necessary instructor, sponsor, and, hopefully, an assistant or 2 will fill out a room like Interactive very quickly…
If you’d like to broadcast through the DMS Meetup (4,885 people to advertise to), shoot me a DM here on Talk anytime. I think your class in combo with a great pic of a dinosaur will attract a lot of people.
