Dinosaur/T-Rex tooth workshop Sat, Oct 26th

I just submitted the T-Rex tooth workshop to the calendar for approval!!

It will [hopefully] be from 3-5 on Saturday, Oct 26th in interactive. The fee will be $25, and it’ll be paid through The Dinosaur Workshop’s website, which is why I’ve set it to instructor approval.

Can anyone think of anything I need to know?
I need to be able to play something on the TV. Can I just cast to it from a phone, or do I need to hardwire a computer to it?

@tomthm You suggested I also send it out through “meet up,” I think. How should I do that?

Can you give a bit more detail? Building a replica? Size? Materials?

The classroom TVs have Chromecast dongles on them. You should be able to 'cast from your phone to them with the appropriate app. I recommend trying days ahead of time to work out the procedural kinks.

I’ll recommend this.
Every time I’ve needed to use the Chromecasts, they’ve crapped out.
I think this is due to how many people are on site and using the wireless, but it does, nevertheless, make me come down on the side of cautioning any instructor against counting on them. Especially if you’re trying to show a video on a busy night…

I worked at the Billings this summer just for the heck of it (http://www.billingsproductions.com) AND I lead the workshop a few good times AND I had Dino related tooth jokes galore. It’s the t-rex mold they use for the production Rexies. It is a (unfortunately) reproduction tooth made with two part epoxy (if you find a real one let me know). They have three sizes of tooth to choose from.

Their facebook page has a video of Lauren [the owner and our instructor] making the tooth, so you can see the process.

I’d link to the actual video, but last time I did that, it autoplayed. Ack LOL
It’s the 2nd one in the play list.

A rock solid reason to have your videos on yootoobs, toos, dudes!
I could have sworn I saw the “how we make a tooth” thing on the 'toobs back when this came up before, but darned if I can find it. At least the 'book’s not “login required”… :+1:

The T-Rex tooth workshop is now live!

@tomthm @NightRanger

I was looking through past posts about advertising on meetup, and I wondered if y’all could help me get this event put up there, if it’s worth it. I know nothing about meetup except it was a suggestion people made.

@Nightranger is the expert. I’ve been saying I will get a class posted on Meetup, but have yet to do it. I’ve moved to Austin, so will only be up once a month. Got sidetracked just now. I’m going hand you’re question to him as he is the one who got me interested!

Just added your event. Bear in mind that guests will have trouble finding the classroom and need to sign the waiver before entering the rest of the building. Hope it goes well and please let me know about the turnout!

Check out the Meetup announcment here and let me know if anything needs to be changed:

Thank you! Is there any way to limit the number of spots? I can only take 15 people total and I’ve got a few on the DMS site.
How do I require they pay in advance and how do I let them know they’re approved?

Thank you so much for your help!

I can change the number of spots on Meetup if needed.

Try sending people that have signed up a message through Meetup reminding them to pay in advance and when they’re approved.

Is there a way to send out another MeetUp post saying there are still open spots, if anyone wants to join us?
It looks like the one person who has already signed up through there has already paid, so that’s not an issue…and it’s nowhere near full yet so I guess we don’t need to change the number of spots

I’ll post to Facebook this evening to try and gain traction.

I’m going to see if my kids want to do it.

So riddle me this, if my kid want to do it, but us parents dont want to make a tooth, Do I get tickets just for my kids?

Lauren says you can just register as a chaparone, which is free
