Digitizing a Pattern

Can a pattern be digitized and put into Fusion 360, Solidworks, etc. to be used/manipulated for use in any of the CNC machines?

Fusion 360 keeps all files on the cloud, AND you can choose to share them. Don’t know about Solidworks…

Not all designs are useable by all CNC machines. Generally you create a design to be manufactured by a particular type of machine/material. This is most especially visible when looking at laser printed case designs.

that’s a tough one. vectors created by one program don’t always translate to another. I’m a big corel draw user. even if I translate a solid square to a DFX file and import it into say Inventor, what I get is 4 disconnected splines. not a big deal in say MasterCam where I can chain them easily but otherwise problematic in Inventor and what was FeatureCam. Not sure what SolidWorks is gonna do with them, but I’m guessing unconnected splines as well. cheers!

In Solidworks when you import a DXF, you can have it automatically connect things within a certain tolerance.

Good to know. Inventor wasn’t very friendly in that respect
