Digital Modes on the BYOR bench

Hello all,

I’m working out a way to get a PC for Logbook of the World and Fldigi on the BYOR bench.

I propose that we obtain a SignaLink USB interface with at least two pre-wired interface cables. This would be chained to the desk (along with the interface cables), ready to use.

Comments?

I have an Ubuntu laptop that I would be glad to donate to the cause. Not particularly powerful, but more then enough for Fldigi and LOW.

Doesn’t LOW require a personal account to use? Have you thought through the process for that software?

I appreciate the offer. However, would a small form-factor PC with a full-size keyboard maximize the usefulness of the desk space? I was thinking something like the Zotac ZBOX stuck to the back of a LCD panel.

Yes, each amateur wanting to use it needs to create a (free) account.

Well, now that you mention it, LoTW seems to want one certificate per computer, and it is not set up well for multi-use computers from what I can tell. I’ll have to think about this, but individual user accounts might work if it understands windows domains.

A ha!

When you request a Callsign Certificate that will reside on a shared or public computer, LoTW’s security policy expects you to specify a password when you request that Callsign Certificate. If you password-protect a Callsign Certificate in this way, you must provide the password whenever you use the Callsign Certificate to submit QSOs to LoTW. Thus each password-protected Callsign Certificate’s password must also be remembered. [/quote]
