there have been several strings that have alluded to the committee and its purpose and those mentions were largely out of scope… if we could just affirm the Purpose as stated here:
“Best Practice is to reserve the room in order to reserve the workstation.”
Saw this in your rules, how does this conform with “First Come, First Served” on non-reservation of tools? I can see how the room in total could be reserved for a production/shoot/audio session, controlled space is required - but this appears to be an individual tool similar to the digital work station CA has - which is FCFS. This effectively block someone from using tool prior to reservation unless they can complete their project by the reservation time.
Thanks for pointing that out @Draco! Usually when we create a new category for committee related discussion, we use the following format for the first line/paragraph:
The Xxxxxx Category is for discussion of xxxxxx in general and governance of the committee. (replacing the xxxxxx with the actual committee name…)
… then, we typically add more details according to what the committee chairperson wants (or a blub that we grab from the committee’s wiki page… )
Based upon that general formula, I have set the description as follows, for now. It can be changed at any time.
I just updated it a few minutes ago… If you click on the little pencil in the top right corner, you can see the revision…
That is the category… it’s a public category that can be seen by anyone - even if they don’t have an account (or aren’t logged in).
The only category that you would not be able to see, if you haven’t been added to the members group, is the Members Only category. As long as you are using the exact same e-mail address in the billing system, as you do here on TALK, then the next time that Brooks imports the e-mail addresses from the billing system you will be added. It’s a manual process, so it happens when Brooks has time… He often does a lot of these types of admin things on Sundays. I’ll get in touch with him tomorrow to see how he imports the e-mail addresses, so I can do it on the occasion that he has other things to do on Sundays. Thanks for your patience and understanding!
Thanks Lisa. I wasn’t too concerned with my status I just didn’t know if you were talking about something different as Draco said the forum was “empty” which I didn’t equate with what you were saying.
Per your recommendations I have gotten Cam Studio installed. Only one hiccup, the CODEC install they list as an option appears to be required if you actually want to save your files… Will test out this week for use in recording the class.
Yes, I would recommend recording with their codec.
That codec works well on most computers. You will want to transcode it to h.264 afterwards for posting but your computer is likely not fast enough to attempt to screen capture and record directly to h.264. There are several ways to transcode, VLC might be the easiest and you likely already have it installed.
VLC in theory can screen capture, I have never had much success on Windows. I find the flexibility of Camstudio to be worth the extra install and step.
