Hello all,
The DFW Retrocomputing meetup group is hosting it’s spring meetup in the DMS North Lobby this coming Saturday, April 22. There are usually in the range of 30-60 hobbyists in attendance, many with vintage computers to display and demonstrate. This is a crowd that could potentially be a pool for new members, or for referring new members, to the DMS, as the vintage computing hobby involves many activities that overlap with DMS interest categories, such as 3D-printing, woodworking, metal fabrication, laser cutting, dye sublimation, not to mention electronics and VECTOR.
Any DMS members are of course welcome to join in the meetup, browse the exhibits, maybe even bring an old computer for show and tell (There is a signup for table space on Signup Genius, something new we are trying.) No obligation at all.
We have space and time set aside for “lightning talks”, which are varied, and can be talks bringing other hobbyists up to date on ongoing projects, or 5-minute introductions, or anything in between. It would be great if a DMS representative were interested in talking a little about the space, it’s facilities, and direction. If there are no takers, then I or one of the other DMS members in the meetup group can make a brief plug for the space.
Also, there may be some interest in brief (15-30 minute) tours of the space during the event. If anyone is interested in doing something like that, let me know, and I can gauge interest and maybe something will come together.
Finally, if anyone has any interest in manning the door for a30 minute slot, it would be a chance to identify folks who are new to the space, get their wavers signed, and perhaps get them to sign up for a tour.
