Detail Car During Winter

With winter fast approaching I was thinking it would be really nice to detail my car inside. Are there any water spigots outside the Makerspace? If there’s nothing outside are there any inside? I’ve got several 100’ hoses on reels around the house I could bring with me and then run under a high bay door.

What an interesting idea, but where would all that water end up?

None outside and I’d think water containment and cleanup would be an issue. @Team_Automotive

Water management would be the primary concern. I certainly wouldn’t advise spraying it with a garden hose inside.

Maybe a waterless wash or spot detailing is workable. Anything that doesn’t leave the floor soaking wet and create a hazard.

Regarding a hose or spigot inside the building, the water buffalo is probably the best answer. Again, you should not hose your car down inside the building, but it’s great for filling up a 5 gallon bucket or the like.

I believe there is a specific prohibition against washing/working on cars outside, but I can’t see the Source at the moment to locate and cite it.

Were it me, I’d use one of the car washes for the bulk work and do the actual detailing inside at the space. You might even be able to use the to-be-automotive space by ceramics and not block the lift area.

Per our lease, we are forbidden from doing any automotive work outside. I’m not 100% certain, but I am 99% certain that this covers things like car washing/ detailing/ etc.

My suggestion would to take your vehicle through an auto wash, then bring it into the auto shop for final detailing.
Its clean, don’t have to worry about water everywhere inside, and no outdoor rule violations.

A spray bottle of water and a blow nozzle on an air hose would easily and quickly take care of any minor road grim that accumulated on the couple mile drive from the auto wash to the auto shop without creating a huge mess.

Take you and your car to a local do it yourself car wash - there is no car washing outside the makerspace.

Plus inside the automotive area - Mechanical work has the priority - so keep that in mind.

Something else to keep in mind if you’re trying to detail at the space…

We generate pounds of sawdust daily and it gets on just about everything no matter how careful you are.

My thought was wash outside, then bring the car inside for the detail.

Sounds like it’s not really feasible.

I take all my trash with 4 wheels to a touchless/ spray down place prior to waxing or detailing etc at the space. I’d recommend the one off of Spring Valley and Marsh in Farmers Branch. This location has the best pressure and options around and takes credit card. I think it shows up on google maps as “lil rascals”. There’s a few under that name so make sure it’s on spring valley. From there I do a waterless wash at the space and so on. If you plan on paint correction or something where dust would be an issue I’d recommend going to the space between 1am-7am on a weekday, put in your earbuds or headphones, and go to town.
