Does anyone know of or have a good resource for desktop laser engravers. Nothing really powerful or expensive, just enough to do small engravings on wood items.
I want to get one for my son as he has started showing interest in small item woodworking.
I’ve seen plenty of tutorials on building your own from spare DVD burner parts, but I don’t have the time or desire to build one from scratch.
I would check fleabay, or aliexpress, if you want something entry level.
We actually have a small desktop laser CNC kit we got donated to us but never built. Here’s the original thread: Mini laser cutter kit I think we’re waiting on upgraded parts for it.
I would highly recommend you enclose it with wave-length specific shielding, especially around your son. I’m pretty sure there are a few laser experts on this forum that would recommend safety as well.
