I tried to use the Delta Belt sander tonight, to etch/sand acrylic. It had too much gunk on it though, that I couldn’t remove. I couldn’t find any replacement belts in the wood shop area. Where are replacement belts kept, or can you let me know when the belt gets changed out?
i bought a belt a few days ago, and it just came in tonight. I will be there on monday to change it out
Great! Thanks!

We don’t allow members to sand plastics on the larger power sanders. It takes just a second or two for the plastic to melt and foul the grit on the belt, making it unusable for wood… It cannot be cleaned once done. Those belts are $25 for a three-pack.
What about sanding cured epoxy resin - does it have the same issue? I’ve been thinking of doing a wood/epoxy project and while I have a 3"x24" at home, the larger DMS sander might be useful.
@Tapper, would sanding plastic be OK if a member brought his/her own belt in to use and swapped belts before and after use? If so, what size belts does it use (4"x36" perhaps?)
Question probably better directed at the Woodshop Committee. I have no idea what epoxy does when it hits the wheel.
We do allow people to use the festool sanders on plastic, and that’s what most people want to use anyway, so it hasn’t been much of an issue in several years.
6" x 48" belt.
Also, would this differ if we supply our own belt?
Please do be aware - there’s a finite limit here, based on the fact that cutting plastic on power tools frequently causes the plastic to melt and foul the tool/blade/paper being used. So allowing one or two tools can be problematic, since a lot of people don’t read, don’task, don’t care - and if they see one person cutting or working in plastic in the woodshop, they will just assume its ok on all the tools, and then we have potentially a lot of ruined stuff and/or wood.
