I’ve been asked to relay this message. Dms members are not privy to the same discount at Dms when shopping at Tandy. Please keep this in mind when shopping for your own materials. We (Dms) have worked and crawled our way into a nice discount with them based on the amount of material we’ve purchased over the last year (mini leather revolution going on in here).

If you are interested in leather please attend a work night/ class or teach a class for yourself. Tell people who might be interested. We have a cabinet full of materials for you to use and enjoy with your membership.

do members get a discount at Tandy? A few places do offer discounts. For example, DART has a vastly discounted rate for members of DMS/members of non-profits. hmmm… what are the discounts we get from others?
You have to order the materials that you want from Tandy(kinda like the adafruit orders). It’s not really the members that get it, it’s DMS that gets it. You can’t just go up there & get it & get the discount.
Yes I do believe members do get a small discount if they mention they are from DMS at the Irving store but it’s not the same (and I’m sorry I don’t know the names of the tiers of discounts at Tandy).
We discussed doing an adafruit Tandy order. I need to be honest here and say I’m honestly stacked with things on my personal plate and I don’t really want to manage that for DMS. If someone wants to step up and facilitate an order more power to you and it will benefit everyone involved but I know this is something I would rather not manage. I’m not saying this to be rude - I’m saying this to be honest. I want to help you guys grow but I don’t want to count out rivets and deal with gathering money from others.

Is the DMS price better than their elite pricing?
I’m not entirely sure what our discount is called but I know it’s a very generous one.
@bitta, @uglyknees I believe we have a “commercial” discount, which I believe is either the same or very close to the elite discount. I think there is also a volume component to the discount which increases the overall discount.
I went to the Irving Tandy this weekend. I spoke with the Manager. He’s still very interested in helping DMS, but he’s been preoccupied with other things lately. There were quite a few customers in the store when I went just before lunch.
They had a store wide sale over the weekend. I bought some Craftaids and some additional stamps. All of them were half off of retail, which is about 10% more than elite. They had all kinds of leather on sales, too.
As a note: There are only three swivel knives in the rolling storage bin. We really need at least 7 or 8 if we are going to teach classes.
