I just found out today that a stalwart in the surplus industry, Herbach & Rademan, has practically shut down. Naturally, I’m about 10 years late to the news, but damn, that was a blow to find out. All they have left are timing motors now.
If you are ever in Houston check out Electronic Parts Outlet. Be prepared to spend half the day looking at everything and you will find plenty of stuff you did not know you needed…
They have fairly frequent parking lot swap meets, amateur radio club meets, and robotics meets.
When we stopped in we only had about 2 hours to look at everything before the store closed and we were there until the last moments before the closed. Could have spent easily 4 hours exploring all of the stuff.
Anchor-Electronics.com is the last surplus store in Silicon Valley. Alicia could use your business as well. She and her crew have run it for many years after her husband passed. He was big in the S-100 world BITD and she’s amazing to do business with. I’ve spent at least 16 grand with her over the years. Good parts at great prices, but limited stock on some things.
She does do some bulk pricing too. It just depends on her stock levels.
When I walked in there while I was in Houston for the Houston Arcade Expo last November the owner was standing nearby and greeted us. Mentioned that I was from Dallas and we used to have Tanner’s Electronics and others. He knew Jim Tanner well and they used to buy/sell/swap inventory with each other.
