This weekend, January 19-20, is the Dallas Area Train Show at the Plano Convention Center, at the corner of Spring Creek Parkway and Jupiter. Sponsored by 26 local Model Railroad Clubs in the DFW area, all gauges, all sizes. Entrance fee is $10 per person and children under 12 are free. What a way to babysit! Lot of trains running on layouts, free how-to clinics, and even tours of local homes with train layouts. A yearly event and worth the time to see it.
Swing by Collin Creek Mall to see the Texas Northern Model Railroad club layout by JCPenney. There will be some members there running trains and showing off the layout during show hours.
Is that the club that used to be on Northwest Highway @ Ferndale ?
I don’t think so but I could be wrong.
Since I live 5 minutes from there … would there be any vendors there who might sell small tools suitable for modeling? Not looking for specifics or a guarantee, but kinda a general impression.
Chris,
There were vendors selling small tools last year - along with the usual dental style pics, etc. If you opt for Sunday go early in the day before they have packed up and left…
I agree, there is always a small tools vendor there. He is usually located in the hallway near the small food court.
I presume you are familiar with Micro-Mark?
I have to lock up the credit cards before I dare to look at their catalog…
There was once talk about having a model train running around near the ceiling after expansion. I do not know whether that is still a thing. What scale would be better? O scale because it is easier to see or HO for greater selection of rolling stock?
Kris Anderson was talking about a G scale train. Just talk at the moment, no action has been taken.
Let me throw this out there…
The MIT Model Railroad Club operated like a small specialized makerspace. It gave rise to an early and active computer hacking (in the good way) culture.
