Cutting Leather With the Laser

Hello!

I’m sorry if there is already a class for this I am still very green with everything!! Can anyone help me get the information on how to use the laser for cutting leather???

There’s not really any class for cutting leather on the lasers, just several warnings. Mostly, be 100% sure that it is untreated veg-tan leather that you are cutting. Chrome-tan should NEVER be cut on the laser, it uses unknown chemicals in its tanning process, and 99% sure that the majority of them are toxic when ignited.

If you aren’t 100% sure its veg-tan, I would avoid the lasers tbh.

Also, from past experience, case the leather a little, it will help reduce the smell of burning hair/flesh.

It can/will be very stinky.

Again, be 100% sure that it is untreated veg-tan. If you are not sure, then don’t do it

Good to know! Since it’s best that I don’t use it due to the tanning of the leather. Would it be possible to laser an acrylic template??

Not to speak for others, but yes. Hopefully you’ll get responses for offers of help, if you want, but meanwhile, searching can provide historical information, at the least:

Hitting the “more” button at the bottom leads to this results page:

So certainly has been done in the past; no reason to think it can’t be done today. :+1:

Thank you!!!

And there is a pretty good set of level-up Laser classes that get regularly offered. Here are the ones currently on the class/event calendar: Current Laser Related Classes.

It’s a good idea to check the class/event calendar regularly when you are interested in something specific. Or even if you are just bored :–)
