To fund purchasing a 2 post lift, which will be ~2,500 installed, I was thinking of using a crowd funding site. Does anyone know which site would be best or have experience crowd funding a large single purchase? Any complications using funds for donation to 501c3?
No complications or better places to crowd-source that I know of. It worked for the HAAS Mill, I think should work for here.

With the Haas was the process just giving out a paypal link after gauging support via the list? I was thinking of using kickstarter, but I think that would have 8-10% in fee overhead
Yeah, for the HAAS we just setup a PayPal donation link, though we also accepted donations via check.
