Crochet classes soon, beginner and beyond

Hey folks, the Fiberarts SIG is putting a couple of interesting Crochet Beyond the Basics classes on the upcoming schedule.

These are perfect for folks that know basic stitches but want to branch out with more skills and techniques. They center around a project idea that teaches a set of skills, but are adaptable to infinite variations.

You will need prior knowledge of basic crochet stitches (single/double crochet).

BUT if you need to learn crochet from the beginning or want a refresher, come to a Tuesday night Spinning and Fiberarts class and we can get you up to speed.

I say all this because the first of the Beyond Basics classes is happening soon (Tues Oct 18, just submitted so it may not show on schedule quite yet) ****so if you need help with basic crochet stitches, the NEXT/ONLY spinning and fiberarts class is next Tues Oct 11. We have hooks/yarn for practice. Just bring you.

For the upcoming Beyond Basics, the first is a cool technique of adapting irregular appliqué shapes into a square, plus techniques like working in the round, color changes, and joining methods. We’re doing a practice for a Skull Scarf for the project, but the technique is adaptable to thousands of motifs (Google crochet appliqué for ideas)

The next one (likely Nov8, yet to submit) is tapestry crochet, probably a cell phone case or small pouch, utilizing reading graphs, color changes, etc. It’s being used a lot for those gorgeous crocheted mochila bags you might be seeing. Lots of possible projects and design possibilities.

So the takeaways here:

  1. there’s some cool next level crochet stuff coming up for the fall schedule, one very soon

  2. if you are interested in these upcoming classss but need basics first, you NEED to come to next week’s spinning class to prep for the skull scarf, or one of the next few to prep for the tapestry crochet one
