Regarding Intro to Leather, and Leathercraft project classes. I’d like to discuss the idea of doing both back-to back.
Say have a 1 hour Leather Intro class from 6-7 then a project class from 730-930. This would work well for me, being at DMS longer on one day because of my 45 minute commute to get there. They would be listed separately on the Calendar, and aside from me teaching both are two independent classes. My thoughts are to cover intro classes, and have project classes I’m doing available. Maybe do this twice a month?
Something to keep in mind with teaching an intro class followed by an advanced class the same day, is that if the intro is set as a prerequisite to the advanced class in the calendar system, then that will prevent members from signing up for the advanced class ahead of time. A way to “work-around” that would be, instead of using the intro as a prerequisite, to restrict the advanced class to require teacher approval and only approve members who attended the intro class already. If you do that, it would probably be best to make it extremely clear in the advanced class description that the only attendees who will be approved, will have to have taken the intro class first.
Good point. In my case, for the leathercraft classes, I don’t think the Intro to Leather should be a required prerequisite to take a Project Class. The purpose of the Intro class in this case is mainly to prevent damage to the tools and understand their proper use. During the project classes, we’ll be using a specific set of tools for that project, and I’ll be monitoring their use. That’s what I’m going to recommend at the CA Meeting at least.
The Intro class can also have 15+ people in it, whereas the project classes will all be limited to about 5 spaces for most projects.
