@StanSimmons @Finire maybe you can help?

Original:

Proposed replacement:

They use different pin sets. It won’t physically fit in the same socket. The original uses a FCLGA1155 socket, and the replacement uses a FCLGA1156.

Tl;dr: No, it won’t work.

These procs are so old that you’re going to have to pay a premium to get a replacement. Lowest NIB I found that would work is around $200.

You can buy used, but you’re kinda playing with fire if you do so.

is there another cpu that can be used in its place?

Well, you should be able to use any proc that drops into a LGA1155 socket. You might have to flash the BIOS, but likely not.

The challenge is finding one that (1) works and (2) isn’t exorbitantly expensive.

so this one should be good to go?

Probably. It depends on which mainboard revision is in that machine. The 8300 was around for a LONG time, and had many, many revisions.

Unfortunately, there’s only one way to find out. Bite the bullet and try it out.

Make sure its not soldered in. Some mass market suppliers have started soldering the chips to the mainboard. Especially laptops and small form factor.

There was no CPU in the socket

repairing or replacing the lemovo power supply might be a cheaper option…
