Trying to get as many members input at possible. I’ll be at the space Saturday and I can get it done if it’s not done by that time.
What kind of printer is it?
I’m collecting peoples information about what they are looking for in a printer at DMS to help us better understand our needs
A DTG printer would be nice.
I’ll be up there today some time I can put some up
Ask @Nick about his, not great unless you use it constantly.
DTG printers SUCK! the biggest waste of $10K I’ve ever spent. cool in theory, but have zero resale value and make large format maintenance seem light.
They do look really cool, what is the problem with them?
Posters are up. Bulletin board, purple classroom, interactive, CA, lecture hall, digital media and printer room.
Sorry I didn’t post the fuller explanation,
They are a nightmare of a technology. You really need to get the version that does white ink to produce the items that people want. This is bad, because the white ink is so much thicker than the print heads and tubing in the printers are meant for. Then, you have a ton a maintenance on these machines. We are talking about daily head cleanings and messy cleaning of ink clean outs. Also, the print heads on these machines are considered disposable and a cost for doing business, I replaced the print head on my machine 2 times in the first year and 4 times in the second year. Also, the ink lines in the machine have to be replaced about every other year, because the white ink will build up chunks in the line which will wreck print heads. Also, when using the white ink, you have to pre-treat shirts which is a pain as well and messy as it requires a sprayer and a place that you can spray. Also, they are not fast, full day’s use of a machine might be able to produce 200 to 300 shirts in 8 hours with a full front imprint.
Dye-sublimation is a much better technology than DTG. I learned this the expensive way by owning a DTG. The idea of DTG is amazing, but the implementation is just crap. To make matters worse the problems don’t show up till you have had the machine for 6 months. So the shops selling these at expos always try to sell their floor models before the problems start. Once out of warranty these machines are not worth owning, due to all the costs.
