Conflict Resolution & Effective Communication

This was deliberately placed into the General Forum

I would like to pose the idea of hosting a conflict resolution class that would be fairly informal and go over some methods I have seen used in a variety of settings to both prevent, resolve, and de-escalate situations.

I know I can easily just throw it on the calendar, however I wanted to gauge interest and hear other opinions on the idea.

Just to be clear it wouldn’t count for honorarium.

I like this idea. I think it builds community when conflicts can be resolved instead of people just leaving.

From the Rules; RE: Mediation

Formal Complaints

The formal complaint process exists for members to request a discussion be held by the Board of Directors regarding specific actions of another member. Members are expected to discuss their complaints in a calm and polite manner. Mediation is available to resolve issues without the need of a formal complaint.

From Rules and Policies - Dallas Makerspace

I am not sure how this has been implemented or if it has.

There is also a Talk Category: https://talk.dallasmakerspace.org/c/interest-groups/mediation
And an inactive committee page: https://dallasmakerspace.org/wiki/MediationCommittee

I wouldn’t ask for honorarium. I don’t strictly teach for money just to be clear.

PR did not request classes.

As far as the mediation goes from the rules I don’t feel it’s being used. I think that having anclass going over that might be helpful b

I’m suggesting that you lead that effort and help make it all work. We need it and Thank You.

With respect, I believe we would better served by paying a professional instructor for this.

I think having a paid instructor on site would be great but let’s make it open to more than just board members and officers … We have chairs and future chairs and Sig leaders. I’m not certain the interest or the cost. But perhaps they could bring the blue tape with them…

I’m not looking to exclude people.

Also, you can get some blue tape at the hardware store. No need to wait for them

on Amazon even, no need to even put on underwear.

I’ve never seen a hardware store that requires underwear. That being said, I do recommend wearing some anyway.

What underwear?

Conflict resolution underwear, of course

Haha I love all of this.

I think an instructor would be fantastic, but that would require funds.

My idea was more of a round table discussion and maybe light roleplay for interested parties. Nothing overly formal. I’m always down to take a course or the like for things like this though!

Conflict Resolution Underwear would be mandatory. Cotton, fair trade, non gmo, locally sourced and most importantly -conflict free- materials only.
