I would like to design a small 3d-printed model that will have a smoke effect come out of it, but dry ice doesn’t last long, and a fog machine is too large for a small 3D model. Any ideas?

Minimal heat. It is designed to be heated by the smoke pot in a model railroad engine . Not as much as a glycol/glycerine smoke machine rig ,but some visible smoke .
There are Piezo based smoke generators that you can buy from some of the Chinese suppliers. It basically generates a low temperature steam By ultrasonic exciting a bath of water.

There are water vapor generators that you can pickup for a few bucks . they are generally used during Halloween so I assume food safe and they are also the primary working unit in some cheap humidifiers. [
