Cold saw - can it cut Aluminum?

I’m working on a couple of projects using T-slot extrusion. I’d like to be able to cut some pieces to length, and need a clean 90 degree cut.

Can the cold saw do that ?

I haven’t been trained on it but my understanding is that the cold cut saw does not have the sfm to cut aluminum.

I have been told absolutely to not cut AL on the cold saw.

The Cold Saw rotates at 220SFM, the manufacturer states it needs to rotate at 1700SFM, the saw has different gearing available Aluminum. The saw at low speed would gall and gum up the teeth.

If the material has Rockwall hardness B greater 55 can’t be cut on our saws.

Thanks for the info.

Is there a more appropriate tool in the shop for cutting Aluminum extrusion ?

The band saws. If you want real precise you will need to dial it (horizontal bandsaw)in straight. Some love taps will help get the fine adjustments.

Could do a rough cut with the bandsaw and then use a long endmill in bridgeport to clean up the face and get an exact length depending on how precise it needs to be.
