Colchester coolant post

I noticed Thursday night that the lathe coolant-post-mount tends to wiggle around a lot when you traverse the bed. I tried to tighten the screws that mount it to the apron, but found the right screw wouldn’t tighten down.

Thought I’d run that past @BobKarnaugh and @nicksilva before I unilaterally replaced that screw and/or re-tapped that hole. I’ll be at the space either later today or tomorrow.

we welcome any help and improvements. just take care things don’t go south.

Got it. I’ll sound off before I need the plasma torch!

There is also a segmented flexible hose that can replace the portion pass the valve. It is kept in the teachers’ cabinet - not sure if anyone prefers that or not, but we do have it. Much easier to adjust position.

I want to say the screw we used was just what we had. A soft grade 2 machine screw.

Which is probably smart - rather have the screw give than the slide.

I expect to be at DMS by late morning tomorrow (Sunday).

I fixed it. The screws that were in it were a diameter size too small and were boogered up pretty good. They were bent when I pulled them out. I had a hell of a time trying to figure out what size the holes were, and ended up using the pin gauge set to figure it out.

I retapped the holes with a 10-32 tap and reinstalled the post. It’s snug and secure now throughout travel.

Didn’t put the flexible hoses on because they didn’t mate up. Quite frankly I liked the metal one better for now.

Added coolant and tested it. Runs fine. Liquid comes out the hole as expected.
