Colchester Collet Runout

Nick brought to my attention that someone badly crashed the Colchester shortly after it was set-up for collets. Currently, there is a minimum of 0.010 runout at the headstock. When this lathe was first set-up with collets it ran true. Now…

Also, it is not possible to zero-out the compound scale.

The runout is measured on the collet chuck or at the spindle nose (with no chuck on the lathe)?

Measured at the spindle. 0.500 collet used with material. The runout is clearly visible. Using the live center does not rectify the runout.

I was told that someone seriously crashed the lathe within the past few months and severely damaged a chuck. That person may have caused even more damage.

I was attempting single point threading. Runout is too much!

Using a 4-jaw chuck is really not ideal for the part I am making due to several features that require part re-positioning. For me, collet is the ideal method.
