Beginning today, and perhaps extending a few days (if problems arise), we will be upgrading vCarvePro to the new Makerspace Edition.

The Bad news, is that vCarve may not be available during periods this week.

The good news, is that once installed, you will be able to download the trial version of vCarve to any machine you own, use our special Makerspace Key, and do evertything on it except generating G-Code. The G-Code will need to be generated from a copy of vCarve running on the jump server (in more or less the usual way). Yes, the Makerspace ID will allow you to save files and to import/export graphics.

We will also be upgrading to version 8.5 in the process.

Thanks for doing this. I really think this will make it easier for people to get work done. Any idea when today this will happen? Before or after the class this evening? Only reason I ask is I was on my way up there at noon to do some pretty long cuts.

Already done, although the old version is still on the Jump server as well (for one more day). If you want to use the new Makerspace client, please send an email to [email protected] requesting the ID.

What is the advantage, if there is one, to designing on the trial version instead of doing it on the jump server?

A big one is that you don’t have to remote in to do the bulk of the work.

You can work locally. I was working on a design at lunch today, which I wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise, as I was without a network.
