Looking for a training class on the CNC routers. Or a contact to get signed off on them. I have lots of experience on Vcarve and my homemade routers, and a little on Haas industrial routers with vacuum beds, I just am not experienced with these particular machines.
This is where we should bump @jphelps for a Shapeoko II class. I know that @keoliver has been teaching the Shapeoko III, but I’m not sure that that’s part of the woodshop “path”.
And, I’m going to tag @Team_Woodshop for you – that tags the folks that can give you a real answer. I’ll also tag @mdredmond, as he’s part of the CNC group.
Many of the folks you need don’t read all of Talk, so if they’re not tagged, they can overlook posts like this easily.
I do the hands on Shapeoko 3 and 2 and I’m stretched a bit thin at the moment and don’t have any scheduled. Might be able to get something later this month but might be next month.
What is the name of the software use to run the cnc router? I am going to Rey and learn how to do ever thing I would need to , so that all I would need you to do is watch me and make sure I am not going to hurt myself or the me or the router. I am learning v -curve and the bits, feeds and speeds right now
The software is VCarve. Within it, you will create the g-code that drives the CNC. That step is very straightforwrad once you have the design work in VCarve.
I meant the software from the router to to the computer. Like to move the router left and right manually.
The movement is guided by the g-code that you create in VCarve. The handheld control (called the pendant) can move the head for changing bits, moving out of the way to allow adjustment of the material, etc. If you want to get a sense, I will be at DMS on Saturday morning at 8am supervising a test run for someone close to getting signed off. Glad to chat then.
I will most likely be there!
There isn’t any. That sort of stuff - jogging the head, adjusting speed/feed, etc. all happens with the pendant.
If I understand what you a saying correct the pendent is kind of like a remote.
So I am interested in running the wood router that is right by the wood lathes.
I am wanting to know what the user interface software is for that.
Also is that a vacuum bed ?
Maybe this is not the right place to be asking this but hopefully some can guide me to the right place.
This is as good a place as any. The guy you’re going to be talking to Saturday should be able to clarify a bunch of this for you. Yes, the pendant is basically a remote, so you don’t program the remote/pendant. Currently we’re using VCarve for cad and cam/gcode. Yes, that’s a vacuum bed.
There is no software. There is a pendant (remote).
I am assuming that you’re assuming there is software like Mach 3/4 or the like. There isn’t. You export your GCode from VCarve and then load it into the machine using the remote. Then some steps. Then you hit the start button on the pendant.
The most important software to be intimate with is VCarve.
Thank you so much!
I have spent hours watching IDC wood craft on YouTube.
but I did not have a copy of v carve or a CNC router to practice with
Now I just need to connect the dots by getting my hands on things.
I am going back now to doing some of his example.
This is an amazing resource to learn CNC from beginners reading this post.
How do you zero the Z? Do you just jog it and set zero on the pendant, or do you have a surface block?
We will be bringing a new x-carve device on-line over the next few weeks. It is what you would learn and become proficent on. The large CNC is a production device and isn’t well suited for beginners. Think beginning of November, best to get started on the current learning path. Shapeoko 2, Shapeoko XXL, then move onto the wood x-carve when it is released. There is a good chance that existing Shapeoko XXL users will receive priority for training and testing for the new machine. The machine is stock, so please visit their website for any questions you might have. You could also search Google. Again, we are getting the package listed below.
X-Carve
Inventables, Inc.
Price: USD 2,299.00
The software being used is Easel Pro.

Later we will integrate Vcarve Pro as an upgraded authorization and this will become the path to the Multicam. We expect the new machine will reduce the need to ever learn the Multicam by the vast majority of members.
There is a procedure for z touchoff with a probe and the pendant has zero setting offsets for the spoil board and the stock top.that is covered in the training .
I know that I am late to the party, but let me know if you need help with this project. Happy to jump in and help where I can.
