Anyone do any brass CNC carving on the Shapeoko at this level of detail - is it doable (~2in diameter)?
It’s somewhat doable. However the corners where they are sharp won’t be able to be cut exactly that way. You may be better off printing in castable resin and doing a pour. However you won’t be able to do brass due to the zinc content.
There’s also the Nomad as an option at that scale.
The nomad can do this sort of . So can the sherline cnc, although cam is easier on the nomad. I agree with Tim that casing in bronze will make it look more like a coin . It will look cnc engraved form a cnc machine . Much better to cast it .
I think the best bet is to 3D print it in wax resin and cast in bronze. Here’s what I think the CAD would look like:
Since I’ve already done the solid model, I can create .stl from this and send it to you if you want. EDIT: now that I see it’s a copyrighted design, it’s probably inappropriate for me to share the model. Sure wish I had seen that before I modeled it.
EDIT: Perhaps you can just get it from the manufacturer. It’s token number 1521, near the bottom of that section.
Yeah, sorry you went through all that. I was not wanting to make that coin, but something like it which I haven’t designed yet. Anyway, pretty impressive.
That’s a shame. I actually thought it was a cool coin.
