Looks like the “cleaning crew” emptied the junk/donation/freebie shelf in the wee hours of Monday morning. Well Done!
Thanks, fellas! Sadly, it is a never-ending task.
Those shelves, seem to be an attractive nuisance, for a lot of reasons. Perhaps they have outlived their usefulness? I expect automotive could put that space to better use…
The shelves themselves aren’t too bad, it’s that people ignore the rules and stack stuff on the floor in front of the shelves. The oven was a perfect example…
If we want people to pay attention to the rules, we need to enforce them by punishing people who violate them, and let the membership as a whole know that we are punishing the people who violate the rules.
I’m a big fan of the shelves and think they should stay.
I’ve found a few treasures on those shelves, but I’ve never helped clean them off. I’m going to make a point of joining the next donation shelf clean-up day. Anyone else want to make a commitment to doing the same? C’mon, let’s do something excellent!
I will be glad to help, but wanted to point out that there isn’t a regularly scheduled ‘clean up day’ for the donation shelves. Basically, if you walk by and see something that hasn’t changed in a while (or something just sitting in front of the shelves) any of us should grab some help if needed and toss said items in the dumpster.
Tech books on ten-plus year old technology that never saw wide deployment should be dealt with instantly. No one cares about the ultimate windows 95 insider’s guide nor vb.net with ActiveX nor how to cultivate your sense of ADHD by running your life with your palm pilot. Dispose of titles like that with extreme prejudice and if you witness someone unloading them, advise them that the dumpster is where they belong.
IMHO, we shouldn’t be filling the dumpster with stuff that won’t fit in your own garbage can.
But if I can’t tote my garbage to DMS, what the hell am I paying DUES for?
Sometimes, education begins with interdiction.
Interdiction doesn’t usually seem to be an issue for me. A total aside, I gave a micro-lecture to the lady who was overspraying paint near the bottom of the steps out back a week or so ago.
Also, thanks to whomever taped my hastily crafted sign to the floor. Here’s to hoping it makes a difference! I would’ve taped it down, but there was a lot of crap in the way and I was in a rush to get out the door that evening.
hey Paper Mache is still an art form, and paper is needed for such.
