Clear Cedar Source?

I’m looking for a source for nice clear cedar, either S2S at actual >= 3/4" or 4/4. Clear is most important, vertical grain would be nice depending on price. Note this is Western Red Cedar, not aromatic cedar.

I’ve tried the Cedar place off of Beltline and their stuff is too knotty / cupped / rustic to be of much use to me.

Any ideas?

Try Architectural Carpentry Materials.

They are the only local firm I have found that still stocks #1 dimensional SYP. Seems they lean toward better quality wood, so maybe they can help on western cedar.

It’s expensive but they’ve got it. Thanks!

Hey Matt,

Did you try Central Hardwood? They mention 4/4 WRC, Grade A & Better on their website.

Jeff

If looking for vertical grain, you can ask for “quarter sawn” for vertical-ish (60-90 degrees), or the even more expensive “rift sawn” wood.
