Class on CRT Monitor Basics & Repair Theory

Hey folks,

In case you missed @Raymond 's amazing class from 2 weeks ago (10/6) covering CRT monitors, particularly those with applications for computer and arcade game use, you can now watch it on YouTube! Computer Monitor Basics - YouTube

After several months of preparing slides and interactive content, Raymond delivered the 2-hour course virtually to over 30 attendees throughout the country, and continued with a private (un-recorded) Q&A session for about another hour thereafter. We are lucky to have him in our camp, as his decades of experience repairing electronic equipment brings joy to those of us looking to keep old stuff working.

Thanks, Raymond! :tada:

Thanks Stephan!

That was a lot of work to build the slides, but a lot of fun delivering them and I’m glad everyone was happy

For those of you curious, this was the agenda from the slide deck:

  • Safety First!
  • Monitor Types
  • Playing with Blocks
  • A Closer Look at Blocks
  • Troubleshooting Tactics
  • Cautions on Repairs!
  • Common Failures
  • Finding Schematics
  • Finding parts

I tried to mix a bit of humor in with everything and had some short videos to drive a couple of points home and keep everyone’s attention. It was a very open session in that folks could ask questions whenever they wanted. Their audio is low, but that’s a side effect of using Camtasia to record and my microphone being a directional one - it recorded their questions through my mike.
