Any of you HAM guys use CHIRP to program radios. I hate to admit this, but I’m woefully undereducated about frequency and tone setups when it comes to repeaters and was wondering if someone would like to help me set up my UV5R. Have a few key repeater frequencies I’d like to program but not entirely sure how to get it done.
Would love to do this today, or tomorrow evening (maybe Thursday evening) as I’m leaving on a trip early Friday morning.
I have used chirp with my F8+ (which is programmed as if it is a UV5R). I am going to attempt to attach the data file I use with my chirp programming for this radio. You should be able to use this as a guide if it doesn’t already have the frequencies your interested in. It contains a number of local repeaters as well as some simplex frequencies. Got the cut / paste above decoded but when I drop it into CHIRP, it’s throwing errors on most of the frequencies. Is this correct?

No, that isn’t what I get when I open the file in CHIRP. I am running Chirp 0.4 on Ubuntu 14.04

Remember, with the Baofengs, you shouldn’t take firmware from another radio and upload it. You should download from the radio first, then edit that. You can brick your radio if your image doesn’t match the firmware.
My version of Chirp won’t let that happen. The model of the radio must be embedded in the file, because if I download from one radio, it grays out the option to switch the radio model on the upload part. However, I can highlight the channels from one radio file and paste it into the other radio file and then upload it.
