Cheap sandblasting service?

I need to powdercoat my rims but first i need to remove the old paint. I tried the vapor honing machine but its not stripping the old paint. I tried paint stripper but its not what i expected. Anybody know where i can sandblast my 16 inch rims for cheap. Thanks.

In also interested for my bumper

If the bumper is chrome you will have to do dechroming which usually you have to send out for

It’s just spray painted steel tubing and plate.

These folks are in Arglye

They do everything from small items (wheels / bumpers) to huge projects with various media available.
Kyle did some blasting of some new old stock US Military storage boxes I have that were a hideous mint green (Photomancer probably remembers the Army of those days).

I’m not sure what “cheap” translates to - but I thought it was reasonable for a small one off job.

If you’re into vintage aviation - they have a fully operating Vietnam era Huey helicopter on the property - his address is listed as "“Hawk Nest” heliport on Google.

How much did they charge you for that small project?

Does it need a new media?

$35

I have one of them in shiny mint green that I can bring to the space of you want to get an idea of the size.

You might try calling some of the powder coating shops to ask about blasting - some will just blast for you(most won’t).

It can be hit or miss.

This is also one of those situations where a “group” arrangement of dedicated folks with projects that need media blasting done could (in an ideal situation) work out a plan to get your wheels, someone else’s bumpers, frame, roll bar, winch mount, misc together as one trip and get a price break.
That requires commitment and cooperation though…

I contacted several powdercoating and media blasting companies in the area. Most charge 70 per wheel average. For $35 that is awesome. I will try to call them and ask for a quote. Thanks.

MTS only does media blasting, they are NOT a coating outfit.

Ed,

I have a few things(a VW Thing axle beam, trailing arms, 4 wheels, bumpers, a truck tailgate, running boards & misc that I’d like to get media blasted, but am not sure if I can make it out there this Monday (day off) for a quote.

What size are the wheels you want blasted or would you be willing to let me have (or the set) one so I could show the guy what he is going to give you a price on? The son is the guy you want to work with - not his father…

Getting an accurate quote over the phone for this kind of service is not the best route to take.

My favorite auto shop in Longview was that way for quite a few years.

Sadly, the father fired the son for being too uppity and the business did poorly thereafter.

Thanks for the offer Tom. Since my car is a daily driver i cant have all 4
wheels taken out for service. What i am doing is one wheel at a time. I put
a spare tire on the car while i work on one wheel. I am available after 6pm
everyday let me know when and you want to meet so i can give you my wheel.
Thanks Tom.

Malcolm,

Was that place called “Oak Hill” ?

I have a friend that does powder coating and sand blasting. He is in Frisco, so not too far from DMS.

He runs Flaming Dirt in Frisco. Ask for Ken.

Maybe. Daniel was a great tech for my '01 TDI beetle.

Sr. wasn’t allowed to touch my car.

That is “Oak Hill”

Clark Senior started it in the 1960s, Clark junior and his brother Daniel run it now (Clark junior did leave and operate his own machine shop in Longview.

Senior retired a few years ago.

Do you have a contact number?

Jim i think its time to replace the media in the vapor hone. its not cutting old paint or rust from the material.

It’s on the list of things to do as well as a water change over.
