Cheap pinball finds - discussion thread for new projects

Heh, cool!

BTW, how is the Pro-Football table looking?

Excellent. It’s at DMS now. Not quite playable yet, but I think I’ll have it running before long. Will be a nice machine when complete.

Might as well add here some updates that have happened over the last week for Gold Wings:

  • New main PSU parts
  • All electrolytics replaced
  • Back glass lighting works
  • GI lighting works
  • More lighting up and functional
  • High scores and credits hold through turning on/off
  • Ground modded for safety and cleaning up power.

Now, everything is kicking harder and faster on the game and more functional than before. Some good cleaning all around and some touch up paint (along with putting in the new plastics), should be pretty darn good. Time to re-pin a connector though…

Hopefully 2016 will be the DMS year at TPF.

Once I am done with 3D printers, I’m going to move onto Snow Derby.

So what is the upper limit for cheap?

Williams “Beat Time” c.1967, asking $750 on Ebay with no bids as yet, located in Grapevine.

Heh a bit spendy for me considering the peeling backglass and so-so looking gameplay… but the theme is fun. Beat Time often gets photographed in pinball books and magazines:

A find for that title would be around $200 to $350 in that condition. Definitely cool art/theme but doesn’t say “the Beatles” on it so paying the Beatles premium for “the bootles” just won’t payoff.

Cool find and local, may be able to contact directly and get a better deal.

I have a lead on Williams “Student Prince” for $250. No pics as yet, so don’t know how rough a shape it is in (seller had it labeled as good-fair). Anyone familiar with this game? Googling it gives me enough info to know it’s not too boring of a playfield.

I want to do a full retheme of the game, so I don’t really care about the condition of the artwork or paint.

This is a great candidate for a re-theme. It is not a particularly loved game and they never seem to sell for much. So you won’t have the collectors pissed at you, and if it is in great game it still isn’t worth a ton.

Agreed. Re-theme it. Main color of artwork is mustard-beige and, really, none of the graphics are particularly interesting including the cabinet itself. Might be Marche’s worst design.

It has zipper-flippers and you can do something interesting with that big reel in the middle of the playfield. Maybe put new symbols/power-up modes on it. Maybe one is “lights off” with extra scoring bonus. Another lights various pops or lanes. Another might close the flippers.

Another cheap project game. This missing parts are not very expensive or difficult to obtain if anyone is interested.

1969 Williams Expo Pinball - Project Pin! - Nearly Complete! - $150 (Richardson)
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/vgm/4960829673.html

From Craigslist listing:

Powers on but is not fully functioning. Missing its balls, launcher, and glass top. The backglass and playfield are in good+ condition.

This is a very cool machine that we would keep if we had the space. We have games sitting on a truck that we need to unload. First person here with $150 gets the pin. We can help you load it.

If it is not gone by tonight it will got to auction on Friday.

I saw that one too. It also has a mechanical spinner animation in the backbox. But the playfield looks a little sparse and those side drains are huge! Still… you never know for sure until you play it in person.
